Prince Street Bathroom Renovation: Thoughtful Design for a Compact NYC Space

A small bathroom needs room for everyday essentials without feeling crowded. For this bathroom renovation at 14 Prince Street in Manhattan, NYKB paired a compact floating vanity with a glass-enclosed bathtub, practical storage and warm, textured tile.

The finished space shows how carefully chosen fixtures and finishes can make a compact apartment bathroom feel more open while keeping the convenience of a tub.

A Floating Vanity That Makes Room for Storage

The 24-inch-wide wood vanity provides a sink and concealed pull-out storage within a modest footprint. Mounting it above the floor leaves more of the flooring visible and makes cleaning underneath easier. Its warm wood finish also softens the surrounding beige tile and chrome fixtures.

Above the sink, an illuminated mirrored cabinet adds storage at eye level. Nearby glass shelves provide a place for frequently used items without introducing another bulky cabinet.

A New Bathtub with a Glass Shower Enclosure

The tub-to-tub renovation kept a bathtub as part of the finished bathroom, paired with a sliding glass enclosure for showering. The transparent glass keeps the tile visible across the room, while sliding panels avoid the clearance needed for a swinging shower door.

An overhead shower and separate handheld shower offer different ways to use the space, including rinsing the tub during cleaning.

Coordinated Tile with a Textured Accent

The material palette combines Porcelanosa Steel Acero floor tile, specified in a 47 × 47-inch format, with Porcelanosa Nantes Caliza wall tile, specified at 18 × 47 inches.

For contrast, Porcelanosa Mosaico Nantes Caliza adds texture behind the vanity and inside the shower niche. Using related tones across smooth and textured surfaces gives the bathroom detail without making the compact room feel visually busy.

Built-In Storage Inside the Shower

A wide recessed niche holds shampoo and other shower essentials within the tiled wall. It keeps bottles off the tub edge and avoids the need for a hanging shower caddy. The textured backing ties the niche into the vanity’s accent wall, connecting the two areas visually.
