5 Bathroom Design Tips For 2021

We’re working our way through 2021 and are almost at the halfway point already! So far, our year has been filled with lots of renovations and we wanted to share some of our favorite bathroom design and remodeling tips that we have compiled throughout the year so far. Redesigning your bathroom can be a daunting task. It’s space that is used daily that needs to house certain items, and oftentimes have a very small layout– leading to a design block. But never fear, check out these 5 tips to get your bathroom 2021 ready!

Gray, black, and white are back
The 2021 bathroom is all about the monochrome feel. Bold, bright bathrooms in reds, blues, and greens are a thing of the past – what modern bathrooms crave are grays, black and white. These monochromatic colors give your bathroom depth and sophistication, while allowing designer bathroom furniture, like a stunning standalone tub, to stand out. While white is clean and safe, and grey is calming, moody, daring darker tones, specifically black, are here to stay. If going completely dark isn’t your style, a white bathroom that features black fixtures and details is just as trendy- particularly when they are done in a matte finish!

Using Subway Tile
Subway tiles are a great way to tie in classic design with a modern flare. For years, while subway tiles have been used for showers, bathtub surrounds and bathroom walls, but now they are being used in fun and creative ways! From funky colors to tiles in patterns, subway tiles are just as popular now as they were years ago! These are classic and timeless tiles that seamlessly integrate into a wide range of bathroom styles, from modern and traditional, and everything in between. Some cool modern twists on the classic subway tile include utilizing dark or metallic colored grout, or an interesting material such as marble to create the classic subway tile shape. Statement Lighting
If you’re really looking to make a big impact in your new bathroom, statement lighting is the way to go. While sconces are the traditional way to go, chandeliers or pendants are a more modern way to make an impact. However, if sconces are still your style but you’re looking for an update, linear sconces or adjustable sconces are the way to go. If you’re looking to go even sleeker, consider uplighting or recessed lighting! This creates a lovely soft glow throughout the room, while feeling contemporary and smooth.

Pop of Color
Adding in a pop of color to your more neutral bathroom can not only set your space apart, but it can also make your bathroom remodel much more visually interesting! Try walls of saturated color in paint or tiles, or a contemporary vanity unit or countertop basin. While the easiest way to introduce color into your space is to add in colorful accessories like artwork or a rug, colorful tiles, paint, and cabinetry are more dramatic ways to create a colorful bathroom. One of the more unique, subtle ways to add a pop of color is with the hardware on your millwork! Consider using colored ceramic knobs, colored glass knobs, painted wood knobs, or whatever coordinates with your design aesthetic.

Inset storage
Bathroom storage is always a hot topic among homeowners and with NYC apartments being some of the smallest in the country, space and storage is a top priority. Bathrooms are often the smallest room in the house, but ironically enough are the rooms that have the most stuff to store- towels, soaps, cleaning supplies, etc. One great way to work with the small bathroom layouts in New York is inset storage. Cabinetry can take up a lot of room, so adding inset cubby holes can be a fun way to display trinkets, towles, or even your skincare routine. For an added dose of personality, consider lining this area with a bold tile, paint, or wallpaper.
